Wheelchair places going at Bluebell fish-in

Places are now almost all taken up for our event at Bluebell Lakes, Northants, on Sunday, February 27.

The lakes have all-round vehicle access, parking next to swims and decked areas, so we've reserved a couple of spots for wheelchair users. These are still open.

Contact events organiser Mick Crisp, via the events bit of our website, if you'd like to bag 'em.

PAC members head for the Norfolk Broads

BASH: Wroxham, on the Norfolk Broads

PAC members are today setting sail for a two-day bash on the Norfolk Broads. They'll be keeping us up to date as events unfold via our Twitter feed.

It's easy to follow if you're already on Twitter - just follow @pikelines. If you're not, it only takes a couple of minutes to sign up. There's already plenty of fishing banter on there.

There'll be the odd update on here too, depending how the WiFi works out down in Norfolk.

PAC events update

It might seem miles away, with summer coming. But PAC events organiser Mick Crisp is already organising next season's club fish-ins.

So here are a few dates for your diary.

We're kicking off on Rutland Water, Leics, on Friday, September 17. This is a lure-only event, with 20 boats at £30 an angler, plus a boat fitted out for disabled anglers.

Monday, September 27 sees another lure-only bash at Esthwaite Water, in Cumbria. There are 15 boats available for this - plus a disabled boat - cost again is £30 per angler.

Next on the agenda is Ardingly Reservoir, Sussex, on Sunday, October 10. This is a deadbait-only bank fioshing event, limited to 20 places at £10 each.

Application slips for all the above will be in the next Pikelines, due out to members shortly.

We've also got two lure-only events at Menteith on Monday, November 1 and Saturday, November 6. Application forms for these will be in August's Pikelines.

BREAKING NEWS: Menteith could be off

Sub zero temperatures in Scotland could force postponement of the PAC event on the Lake of Menteith on Saturday, February 27, organiser Mick Crisp said tonight.

"There is a strong possibility that this event may be cancelled due to the ice on Menteith which at the moment is getting thicker," he told the PAC members' forum.

"I will contact everybody who is fishing if it is definitely cancelled, but please spread the word that it is looking dodgy at the moment."

Pike anglers in hunt for Yorkshire monsters

Here be monsters: Damflask Reservoir

Do monsters lurk beneath the waters of a South Yorkshire beauty spot..?

Pike anglers hope the big ones will be feeding when they stage a charity fish-in at Damflask Reservoir, near Sheffield, next month.

Similar events on the 115-acre Yorkshire Water-controlled lake in the past have raised more than £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

As well as raising money for Macmillan, those taking part on March 7 will be hoping to tangle with one of the reservoir's legendary big pike, which include a 40lbs specimen caught last season.
Wakefield-based angler Peter Green, local organiser for the Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain (PAC), said: "It's set in the Peak District national Park, making it a beautfiul place to sit and fish, with some lovely scenery at this time of year.

"Let's make it a great social event, with a good turn-out and continue to raise money for the Macmillan nurses, who in turn may well help a member of your family at some time in your life."
Tickets for the event, which is open to both members and non-members of the PAC, cost £10.

Sponsors including ET, Pikemaster Traces, Mark Houghton, Fishing Matters Ltd and Chico's Lures have donated raffle prizes for a post-event presentation at the Wisewood Inn, in nearby Loxley.
